EP:20 Talking Youth WITH Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Youth
TSMJ prioritizes youth empowerment and raising awareness on their current unfortunate circumstances in Africa, but also a hopeful future. Sierra Leone’s youth make up ⅓ of the population but only 50% are literate with 70% unskilled and unemployed. I had the opportunity to sit with the Honorable Deputy Minister of Youth (Cabinet Secretary) who relates to our youth especially those in the ghetto based on his past. A man that is a visionary and talks to us about the work ahead for our youth to be better postured for success.

About Our Guest
Before his appointment, Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Honorable Lusine Kallon worked with young people. Honorable Kallon has a unique story that is aligned with the young people in our society who are generally considered to be violent, unresourceful, unskilled, and unproductive (the so called street youth). He represents that category of young people at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and through his capacity, he has over the years controlled and coordinated the affairs of the street youth, serving as a motivation and source of inspiration for them. As a testament to his endearing leadership working with the street youth, he considers himself to be one of them; he knows what it means to be unemployed and unrecognized. Through his office as the Deputy Minister, he has been providing job opportunities, empowerment programs, and lobbying for the recognition of the street youth which has given him the spotlight as one of the best performing Ministers at the 2019 edition of the African Achievers Awards.
