The United States military makes history by commissioning the first Muslimah chaplain Lt Saleha Jabeen. This episode, we chat with India-born Sister Saleha on her journey to becoming the first Muslimah chaplain and the road ahead in the military. She is a strong promoter of inter-religious dialogue and Interfaith bridge-building and was the first Muslim woman at Catholic Theological Union to be elected by her peers as the valedictorian of her class.

Saleha Jabeen is a pastoral care provider and a strong promoter of inter-religious dialogue and

Interfaith bridge-building. Graduated with an M.A. in Theology (Interreligious Dialogue) in

2014, Jabeen was the first Muslim woman at Catholic Theological Union to be

elected by her peers as the valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation she interned at Northwestern University, Chicago, during 2014-15 as an interfaith chaplain before enlisting in the Army. While in U.S. Army Reserve (2016-2018), Jabeen served as a Lay Representative of the Islamic faith in absence of a Muslim Chaplain. She conducted classes on Islamic Studies and advised the leadership on needs of Muslim Soldiers. Jabeen was actively engaged in providing

her Unit with mission appropriate cultural sensitivity trainings pertaining to Islamic

tradition and cultural norms.


Saleha Jabeen was born and raised in India and first came to America in 2005. She

graduated from North Park University in 2009 with a B.A. in Business and

Economics. Jabeen graduated for the second time from Catholic Theological Union in May 2020, completing her academic and pastoral education (M. Div.) to serve as a Chaplain. Upon successful completion she has been accepted as an active duty chaplain in of the Chaplain 

the United States Air Force Chaplain Corps. Jabeen will be stationed at Sheppard AFB in December 2020 where she will be serving all Airmen and their families as their chaplain, God permitting.
